He Has Shown The Way

President Barack Obama, Congressman John Lewis, and President George W. Bush on the Edmund Pettus Bridge during commemoration ceremonies on March 8, 2015.

John Lewis is a personal hero of mine, having risked (and very nearly sacrificed) his life so that other lives could be better. Esquire ran an article in which Lewis speaks on a subject he knows all too well – the dangers inherent in men like Donald Trump:

“When I see the people that react to Donald Trump’s words at those rallies, I see the same look in their eyes that I saw [in the eyes of Sheriff Clark and his posse]—a look that says, ‘you’re not a part of us, you’re not a part of the American family, you come from someplace else.’ When Trump talks about building a wall, to lock certain individuals out, people rallied. They screamed and yelled. It reminded me of some of the rallies that I saw on television for [infamous racist/segregationist Alabama governor] George Wallace during the ’60s. It makes me somewhat sad. I thought for many, many years that our country had become much more hopeful, much more optimistic, and we had come to a place where we saw unbelievable changes. I’ve said over and over again that we have witnessed what I like to call a nonviolent revolution in America during the last 50 years, a revolution of values, a revolution of ideas. I think the Trump campaign is trying to take us back to another place, another time, and we’ve come so far, made so much progress, I don’t think we can afford to go back…”

The entire article (which includes excerpts from Lewis’ graphic novel) is worth a read. In fact, it should be required reading for every school in America, as well as a certain incoming administration.

He Didn’t See That Coming

Michelle Obama opened up on Trumplethinskin with every round from every weapon in the armory, then poured gas on the embers, then dug a hole and buried the ashes, then dropped a bomb on the filled-in hole.

There may have never been a more deserving target. AND we still have three weeks to go.

I’m going to need a bigger popcorn bucket.

Save The Day – VOTE!

Gotta get this done, folks.

Begins The Reckoning

I thought that the speech Hillary Clinton gave at the DNC was the speech of her life. It WAS.  This IS:

With this speech, Hillary Clinton did what the mainstream press should have done over a year ago – using ACCURATE words from Donald Trump’s own mouth, from his campaign staff’s mouths, and from his supporters’ mouths, to absolutely annihilate the white nationalist dumpster fire that is the GOP run for the presidency. I understand that the fainting couch market is at an all-time high, pearls are being clutched so hard they’re being crushed into dust, and media Villagers have already pre-assumed the position (flat on their backs hoping for a belly rub but fearing a kick from the Right instead).

It is in a moment such as this that one gets the opportunity to see just how compliant, how cowed, how COMPLICIT the remnants of our Fourth Estate really are, to the extent that simply repeating, verbatim, actual quotes from a political opponent turns into the greatest scandal ever (since the last one, and only until the next one). Make no mistake about it, when Secretary Clinton wins this election, much like President Obama before her, she will have beaten both the GOP AND THE PRESS.

Time To Gear Up

The necrotic dumpster fire that was the Republican National Convention is finally over, and it was every bit as bad as I had imagined it would be. There’s plenty I could say in response to both the party and the gibbering buffoon representing them, but for now I’ll outsource this to Jon Stewart:

The GOP doesn’t just need to be defeated in November; that would be letting them off too lightly.  They need to be DESTROYED.
