It’s been a year since President Obama sent Seal Team 6 in Pakistan to get bin Laden, and the right (and their enablers) STILL CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH! Once again, they’ve gone to their playbook and dialed up a reverse: RomTron3000 saying not only would HE have gone after OBL, but that “even Jimmy Carter” would have done so:
Now I know the Mittster is more of a weather vane than most politicians, but even for him, this is a staggeringly stupid move, at least from the perspective of those of us with memories longer than five seconds. In 2007, Romney flatly asserted that he would NOT send a force into Pakistan to get OBL:
“I do not concur in the words of Barack Obama in a plan to enter an ally of ours… I don’t think those kinds of comments help in this effort to draw more friends to our effort,” Romney told reporters on the campaign trail.
…Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who is one of the Republican front-runners, said U.S. troops “shouldn’t be sent all over the world.” He called Obama’s comments “ill-timed” and “ill-considered.”
The irony here is that this was one of the few times where Romney had taken a risk by staking out a position; in effect, he bet that then-candidate Obama’s strategy would either never see the light of day or fail. He was wrong on both counts. No problem though, when you can simply change direction.
On another front, it seems that even mentioning the operation, and who made the decision to proceed, is just so…unseemly:
Huffington Post editor-in-chief Arianna Huffington said Monday that making a campaign ad about the killing of Osama bin Laden, as President Barack Obama has done, “is one of the most despicable things you can do.”
“I think it’s one thing to celebrate the fact that they did such a great job. It’s one thing to have an NBC special from the Situation Room,” the media mogul said on “CBS This Morning.” “All that, to me, is perfectly legitimate. But to turn it into a campaign ad is one of the most despicable things you can do.”
She doubles down by providing what she thinks is an example of BothSidesDoIt-itis:
“It’s the same thing that Hillary Clinton did with the ‘3 a.m. call,’ you know — ‘You are not ready to be commander-in-chief.’”
Neat trick, not mentioning the fact that President Bush encased himself in a carbonite bubble of 9/11 during the 2004 campaign over
and over again.
The hypocrisy is breathtaking.
